FAQ
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a way of bringing awareness to our present moment experience. We are often stuck in our heads, getting hijacked by our anxious and fearful thoughts. By slowing down and becoming aware of our body and our breath, we can become observers of our mind, rather than prisoners of it. We do this from a place of non-judgement and curiosity. This capacity to be with our present experience, rather than trying to escape it is the foundation from which conscious change and transformation is possible.
Recent neuroscience supports that mindfulness can literally build new neural pathways in our brain to change deeply held negative emotional patterns and support new healthier choices.
What is the Hakomi Method?
The Hakomi Method is an embodied way of practicing psychotherapy. In the work we slow down and turn inward to notice our present moment experience. We are often caught in our story about our experience, disconnected from our bodies and our feelings. This type of awareness allows us to feel the more authentic parts of ourselves and relate to others in a more meaningful and powerful way.
“Therapy is first about discovering. It’s about who you are and about what your deepest emotional attitudes are. It’s not just about who you think you are. It’s not opinion. It’s not something you can know with the intellect. It’s about who you are in the very heart of yourself. That’s the flavor of psychotherapy, discovering yourself, discovering your real attitudes toward the most important pieces of your life.” —Ron Kurtz, Hakomi Founder.
